Overall, good experience. Pros: The food was good. My burger was cooked excellently. The sides were good as well. The servers were nice, and seemed friendly enough. We were seated promptly, and drinks/orders were taken quickly. Cons: First off.. spend $50 and FIX YOUR FRONT DOOR! My wife and I were seated next to the entrance, and the door doesn't close. Every time a patron entered or exited, cold air streamed in on us, our food, and our experience. Secondly, the decor.. Love the Hatch Prints, but hot dang if you can't paint in a color other than soured milk yellow. The 80's called, they want their paint color back. Spend $100 for a nice grey or warm blue or current green and the whole room's ambiance will change. Lastly, the wait time.. HOLY Lord. We were there on a moderately busy night, but nothing unmanageable. I understand items are cooked fresh to order, and that quality is key. I appreciate that, but my wife and I waited over 45 minutes for a basic burger. If we'd been in a hurry, we would have left. And with their odd hours and lack of choices to pick for late meals/supper time, we probably won't be able to frequent as much as we could otherwise. Oddities: Don't know if this qualifies as a 'Con' or just an odd thing we noticed. I have never in my life been to a place that touts their burgers and doesn't offer french fries. Also, I've never in my life been to a place that is "known" for their Que and doesn't offer beer! I understand not having a full bar and paying for a liquor license, servers, etc. etc. But beer? Who doesn't love a good beer and bar-be-cue (or burger, for that matter)??

I was homesick for Texas style Beef Brisket and this place delivered the goods. I have no cons for my meal as the side of beans were tasty too. The lunch menu is limited with only brisket and pulled pork offered for BBQ dishes though I understand the dinner menu has more. Top place in TN so far for brisket, by a mile.

Fantastic food! Great choice for lunch with coworkers. Had the bbq pork sandwich and the Mac and cheese. Top notch.

Awesome food!!! Had the turkey bacon sandwich and it was huge and amazing. Wife had ribs and they fell off the bone yet tasted like burnt tips (which we love). Rolls are soft and warm. Au gratin potatoes were to die for. Bananna pudding and peanut butter pie were fantasic endings to a great dining experience. Would definitely come back so we can try more.

I was in Nashville for both a personal and business trip. I told my friend who lived there that I wanted real BBQ and they said they knew a great place. When we got to this other place, they had run out of meat & all but one side. So I looked around on yelp, found this place had good reviews and headed over. There is just one word to describe this place: AMAZING. The meat can certainly stand on its own. Cooked to absolute perfection. Perfect char on the ribs. The brisket is beyond flavorful & tender. The sides were amazing. I got this cheesy potato casserole thing that I fell in love with. The baked beans were delicious. I wish I dove into their Mac n cheese and swam around in that. I also noticed at another table a woman had ordered a large plate of roasted veggies - so, something for everyone! You need to give this place a try. Since returning to LA, I can't stop thinking about it. I wound move to Nashville just to have more of their BBQ.

We were in the area for the Tennessee Cheesecake dock sale and decided to try this place since it's got such great reviews. The restaurant is small on the inside. It's only got about 12 tables of four. We entered and waited to be sat. The hostess wasn't that friendly but our sever was very nice. I decided to try the special which was the brisket, cheddar on a Kaiser roll, served with a side for $8. I picked the mac and cheese as my side. I, like other reviewers find it odd that they don't have French fries. The food didn't take but 5 or 6 minutes for us to get our food. My boyfriend ordered the au gratin potatoes because the server said that they were "heaven in a bowl". Our food arrived & we received some hot & regular bbq sauce. The brisket sandwich was LOADED with meat. I had to use a fork & knife because it was so big & I didn't want to get it everywhere. The mac and cheese and good, it needed some salt but the cheese & creamy & I enjoyed it. I sampled the au gratin & we both decided it was just too much. Too much cheese, too much grease. The potatoes were kind of slimy. In theory it would be good but it was just too much. I enjoyed the brisket. It wasn't chewy & didn't have much fat on it. The sandwich came with jax sauce on it which is just the regular bbq sauce & a little of the hot sauce. The hot sauce wasn't too hot for me, more of a sweet heat. Overall I enjoyed the lunch. The Mac & cheese is a better option that the au gratin & it doesn't cost $1.50 extra. I enjoyed the brisket & next time I'll try the chicken quesadilla. I would like for them to work on the entry area because it gets really cold with the door opening & shutting, especially when the tables are so close to the door.

We ate here two weeks ago. Almost drove right by it, but so glad we noticed it, and went in. We were greeted warmly by the waitress, and seated immediately. Hubby had the brisket special, and said it was the best brisket he has ever had. (that's a big compliment!!). Food was delicious, and service could not have been better! we look forward to dining there again when we are back in the area!

My husband and I ate here recently after many times of driving by since moving to the MJ area. We enjoyed our food and found it well-seasoned and well-cooked, but it did take quite a while to get it. The servers were friendly, but the door doesn't shut properly so we were constantly having to get up to push it closed so that cold air wasn't coming in on us as we ate. The place needs to be updated... I realize ambiance and decor isn't everything, but it would help. They also have odd hours, which I'm sure is part of why it was so busy when we did go since it was the only night they really stay open later. All in all, the food was good but our overall experience wasn't great enough to incline us to come back often.

Love this place! Never had a bad meal and they keep it resonable. Great family restaurant with an amazing menue! If you haven't been your missing out.

Been a regular here for years! My family and I eat here as often as possible. Our daughter even makes us dress up and go here for her birthday. Almost all good is great, but the prime rib is the best around on weekends!

  • Susie N.

Sitting here reading the reviews and wondering if we ate at the same restaurant! I got the brisket and my first comment was that it had no smoke flavor. It was tender but not particularly juicy. It tasted baked or roasted, not barbecued. The pulled pork was pretty much the same...not much smoke but jucier than the brisket. Two ice teas, one brisket entree, one pulled pork entree and our bill was $32, including tax. We got a lot of food and took some home with us but the quality of our barbecue did not compare to the barbecue food truck in Hermitage.

My husband ate here a few weeks ago and has been begging me to go back with him. I finally gave in and I am so glad that I did! My husband got the smoked turkey sandwich with Chipotle mayo and it was delicious! My daughter got the BBQ sandwich kids meal with the mac n cheese. It's probably the best mac n cheese I've ever had! I got the smoked prime rib sandwich with au jus and horseradish and it was TO DIE FOR! For my side, I got the house specialty, which is a bacon-topped potato gratin that is out of this world! The staff was very friendly and attentive, and definitely contributed to a great dining experience. We are so happy to have found such a yummy place so close to home and we'll definitely be back regularly!

  • Steve M.

I absolutely LOVE this place! The prime rib sandwich is to die for! I get that about 90% of the time. From the food, to the atmosphere, to the servers! Love this place! My only gripe is that half the time I don't make it there before they close at 2pm most days. Wish they stayed open till about 3... but, that's ok! Five stars all the way!

    (5)
  • Emily M.

I've only been here once and it was really good, but the place gets two stars because their operating hours leave much to be desired, like actually getting to eat here! Better operating hours = more business. I guess they do well with their catering so the actual restaurant is an after thought to them. It's definitely an after thought to me... I didn't even know they were still in business because they are always closed when we are out looking to have dinner.

I'll get straight to the point - great bbq, but their hours are very odd, and we were not crazy about the bbq sauce. We tried to go twice on Monday and Wednesday nights, only to discover they were closed. Finally had a chance to try it on a night that they are open (Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays). Got a to-go order: 1lb beef brisket, 1lb pulled pork bbq, and a side of mac & cheese. Total was about $22. The very strong smoky smell was the first thing we noticed - mmm. My husband swears it's the best beef brisket he's ever had, and that's saying a lot because he tries bbq at every opportunity around the country. The pulled pork was also very good, although for me pulled bbq is all about the sauce, and I was not crazy about the bbq sauce. Hard to describe - very vinegary and thin, not the thick sweet sauce I guess I'm used to (think Sweet Baby Rays). The mac and cheese was very good, not the best I've ever had, but very good. The best part? It lasted for 3 meals! There was a lot of bbq packed into those little tubs, so we made it last. *** Update *** I feel I have no choice but to lower my review because we have tried several more times to visit this restaurant and every time they've been closed, even during posted "open" hours like Saturday afternoons! I know they told me they sometimes close sporadically due to catering needs and we should call before we come to check, but that is just not reasonable for a restaurant in my opinion. What if someone had driven a long way to check it out and found it closed?

  • Brad W.

Stopped in for lunch on a business trip and had a prime rib sandwich. It was enough food for 3 at lunch time. Atmosphere is definitely "local" - which I adore - and the wait staff is very attentive. It's family operated through and through... They sat down and ate lunch themselves adjacent to us as the lunch rush settled down. Food was great. One of the best meals I've had in a real long time, but the portions are out of control. My colleague had a spicy smoked quesadilla and it was enough for 3 also. Prices are good - I don't see how they stay afloat with as much food is served. That said, it's a great value and great service, and nothing you should miss!

This restaurant has the some of the BEST food in the area! We have been there multiple times. They do keep limited hours so check their website. My kids devour their Mac n Cheese, and the side dishes are always mouth watering! If you are in the Mt. Juliet area, you have to give them a try! Go hungry- the serving is plentiful and don't count your calories while you are there!

This place is amazing. My fiancé and I were just driving through trying to decide what to have for lunch. We like to give new places a chance to experience different places, passed by, and decided to pop in. Friendly staff, very accommodating, walked us through the menu and favorites.. ALL THAT ASIDE.. the food.... Was........ Amazing. I got the brisket and she got the turkey BLT. Amazing. It was seriously really good. Her BLT was a force to be reckoned with. Providing a picture! We will probably ask them to cater our wedding! Great experience and service.

okay, first off, my husband and i disagree on the star-rating; he supports 5 stars, i say 4....but he didn't marry me for my looseness with star-ratings :) we had the brisket and macaroni and cheese. i love brisket. it's actually one of my nicknames for the hubby "brisket"---i mean, i love him, i love brisket, so, it fits. the brisket is pulled/pieced and very moist. the barbeque sauce was amazing. the husband actually stuck his finger in my ramekin of it to continue to consume it after his meat was gone. the macaroni and cheese is super creamy and yummy. really yummy. i might start calling the husband macaroni, i loved it so much.

Took dad for lunch and had a great meal. Had brisket meal and dad had the sandwich. Good quality, I enjoy when they leave the fat ln it as it keeps the brisket moistened.

Beef brisket was soooo good. Melted in my mouth. The service was A+ with a super nice server. This was the first place we ate in our visit to Nashville from LA. I loved it and their spicy BBQ sauce was so good that I had to buy a bottle to take home.

Hidden little place where the locals go. Turkey BLT is to die for with the flavored mayo. Wow. Great little dive place.

  • Andy B.

The Pork Sandwich I had here was really good, but the mac n cheese was the best mac n cheese I've ever had that didn't also have truffle oil and lobster in it. I kinda wish I had the brisket sandwich. I picked up two of their oreo truffles for a friend and she said they were delicious. I'll be back for the brisket.

Big Bad Wolf is the BEST little find in all of Mount Juliet!!! The food is phenominal, and the folks who run the place are even BETTER!! We love to go when they have the smoked prime rib as a special --- the hickory smoked flavor is deep and rich...You can't go wrong with their brisket either! If you have not tried this place, you owe it to yourself...You won't be sorry!! Thanks to all of the folks at BBW, we will definitely be back!!

Best BBQ in town!! The brisket is some of the best I've had anywhere in the country. The menu has more than just BBQ also. Their quesadillas can't be matched. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

If you're in the Providence area and want to try something local you should stop here. My favorites are the smoked turkey BLT, brisket and spicy chicken quesadilla. They are a caterer and sometimes close down the front. So call ahead before you make the trip.

Great food. The turkey club is the best I have ever had. They also have very good BBQ and sides. Great service. The restaurant is kind of small but usually not an issue.

  • Michael S.

Amazing pulled pork, tender juicy brisket, fall-off-the-bone juicy ribs. The meat was so flavorful, it didn't even need sauce. All of the sides were great, especially the bacon topped potato gratin. The white chocolate mixed berry trifle was great for dessert! Definitely would recommend for anyone who loves barbeque! It is a small restaurant, but worth the wait if there isn't a table available. Service was good & extremely friendly.

Love love this place!! After driving past it since it's conception, we decided to look online to see what was going on. I have only had the French dip and would like to try something else... But, I would have to forgo the French dip!

Oh my word. Amazing brisket here!! We were traveling home from vacation and I searched for BBQ restaurants near I-40. This one looked good with great yelper reviews, so we decided to try it out, and I'm so glad we did. Sandra was our waitress and she was so warm and welcoming! She steered us right to order the brisket, and she even found out for us that they had some of their AWESOME potatoes au gratin casserole available at lunch- score!! Normally I guess that's only offered at dinner. It was to die for- thinly sliced potatoes oozing with buttery and cheesy goodness. It reminded me of the homemade kind we used to make when I was a kid. Son got the pork BBQ sandwich and wanted to get a second. That good (he's a growing boy!). Super iced tea too, and she even filled me up with one for the road. I highly recommend stopping in here for a delicious BBQ meal! Oh- they cater to tons of famous country musicians, etc. Tons of pictures on the walls showing whom they'd fed- such as Toby Keith, Blake Shelton, etc! Cool tidbit. Just go here!

I'll just second John P's opinion. Have lived there for years and didn't realize what we had. Tina had the shredded pork BBQ and I had a pork chop with orange sauce Both were melt in your mouth, juicy good. Plus the portions are generous enough to stuff yourself silly or take some home for lunch. All the Hatch Show prints are fun to view. Nice vibe.

Like others, I've lived in Mt Juliet for over 10 years and just assumed this was some sort of dive. Appearances are often deceiving. We greatly enjoyed this family dining experience. We took the advice of other reviewers and ordered the beef brisket. It was extremely good. We paid a bit extra for the baked potato gratin side, and it was wonderful as well. We will return.

Big Bad Wolf is THE BEST place for barbeque in the Middle Tennessee area. My husband took me here for dinner raving about how they had the best tasting and tender brisket ever. He was right. While I didn't order the brisket, I ordered the Hickory Smoked Pork BBQ Platter, I happily tried the brisket from my husband's plate after I had a tasted just how tender the pork was. Perfect! The sides, steamed broccoli and macaroni, though tasty, were to be expected. The barbeque and their tasty datil sauce are delicious and filling enough not to care about sides. Besides the most delicious barbeque, the service was great and we got a chance to meet the owner, Jim. I loved that we got a chance to tell him what a great restaurant he had. I can't wait to go back again!

Really a great secret place out in Mt. Juliet area. The portions are huge, and the mac and cheese is fantastic. I opted for a smoked turkey sandwich it was really quite good. I just couldn't eat it all!!

My son and I took my hsband out for lunch here a couple of days ago.... YUMMMY! We came into this nostalgic place and found it literally "nut to butt". Always a good sign for a food place, right? The service was a little slow, but with that many people, it's bound to be. I had a fantastic Smoked turkey BLT... Magnificent! The turkey was the BEST smoked turkey I've ever had. My husband had the brisket, and my son had the Pork BBQ sandwich. All of us raved about how great everything was. We will be back! 2 flavors of sauce- delish, and spicey delish! The desserts are awesome too! We shared a white chocolate & berry trifle. Our entire bill was about $30!

Big Bad Wolf = best brisket I've EVER had. Big Bad Wolf = best kept secret in Mt. Juliet. I think I've found my BBQ Mecca and it is Big Bad Wolf! My parents live in Mt. Juliet and I've driven by this place for years thinking it was a biker bar. One day I was talking to a co-worker about BBQ and he said I should tried Big Bad Wolf. I'm so glad I did and I'm kicking myself for never checking it out sooner. The brisket melts in your mouth, has a strong smokey flavor (but isn't over done), and has the perfect amount of "pink" like a smoked meat should. Have I mentioned the words 'best' or 'perfect' yet? It IS small, has poor street signage, and is difficult to spot, so here is a tip: IT'S ACROSS FROM CHEDDARS! Please don't pass this place up based on appearance...you'll be sorry you did. The restaurant also doubles as a catering service called 'Stage Left'. We asked our server about the difference in names, and were told that the owner and chef, Jim LeClaire, used to be the head chef at Starwood. When it closed, he opened Big Bad Wolf/Staqe Left. There are autographs from celebrities he has catered events and I certainly see why they chose this BBQ...it's the best I've yet to taste. Another reviewer mentioned the "weird hours", if you want to make sure you swing by and the place is actually open, the hours are: Sun-Mon: Closed Tues-Wed: 11-2pm Thur-Sat: 11-8pm

Oh my gosh, all these reviews are spot on. Picked this place based on Yelp, 100% accurate. Picked up the Pork and Brisket platter (I know a twofur, but I had to try it). Perfection. The pulled pork needed no sauce, the brisket needed no extra flavor. Spectacular, much better than I could have ever done myself. Now, the side I really liked was the potato salad. This was POTATO salad with dressing, not the other way around. Cooked to perfection and seasoned very well, I should have picked up extra. The rolls they serve go with this very well. You can either make your own sandwich or dip them in the sauce. Oh, the sauce, I am definitely a light sauce person. This was semi-liquid, very well seasoned with just the right amount of kick. It was not heavy at all. My take on this place is someone who has stuck with the time honored BBQ cooking basics and executed brilliantly, then added their take on the sauce, sides and rolls and it all works together. Very, very good, but still keeping traditional as needed. I'd return in a heartbeat.
